Mount Olive Lodge and Autumn Seiler (pictured  with Brother Kelly Bruce), principal of Page and Lincoln elementary schools, are happy to announce our newest participation in helping our young students with their reading skills.  Although our Books For Bikes program covers 1st through 4th grades, this reading incentive is a separate stand alone objective geared towards all of the kindergarten students.  The members of Mount Olive Lodge continue to fuel our passion for education in helping to keep young students engaged and develop the wonderful habit of reading.  Keep reading below for more details.

Bookworm Initiative Objective

Pre-K, TK and Kindergarten can be an exciting time for a child.  Before they enter the more traditional grade school structure, students embark on their academic journey learning the first steps to read.  Students learn how to decipher letter sounds and decode words.  They will begin to unlock treasures found within books and the world around them.    These students are primed to be receptacles for the new experiences that await them on their first day of school.  Early reading skills of learning letters and sounds are the building blocks that play an important role in their development.

The Bookworm Initiative Program’s goal is to add another tool in the teacher’s tool chest within the classroom.  The initiative is simple, to provide a “prize” for the student when he or she has met a specific goal set by the teacher.  The tool or incentive that we provide is a great way not only for the students to feel a sense of achievement but is a great way to engage the students and create excitement.
